Names to the Jewish people said something significant about the person or place. God made Himself known to His people as He revealed Himself by word and deed. There are different names to match the different characteristics of God. I'd like to share a couple with you today. It's fun and beneficial to learn about the different characteristics of our awesome God. You may even find yourself seeing Him in a new way.
Elohim - God the Creator: "In the beginning God created." (Genesis 1:1) "In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God.
He was with God in the beginning. Through Him all things were made; without Him nothing was made that has been made." (
Yahweh - LORD (Jehovah - I AM): "And God said to Moses, 'I AM WHO I AM.'
And He said, 'Thus you shall say to the children of
Jesus also made I AM statements about Himself:
Look up more "I AM" statements in your quiet time; it's a great way to get aquatinted with Your Lord in a very special way.
The greatest name we can run into, as a Christian, is the Name of He whose name is above all other names - Jesus. And "Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and yes forever." (Hebrews 13:8) What a comfort to know some things never change.
